In 1739, May and her husband Charles took over the megachurch created by her father. This created a rift in the clergy as most of them didn't want a woman to be minister. May claimed that God had told her that the Church’s mission was to make sure every member was literate. She founded a school, the library and a publishing house.
In 1760, May's husband and twins daughters disappeared. The following year in 1761, unable to cope with the loss, May died by suicide.
